Performance Sportswear
Do I really need it?
If you're serious about your fitness goals and want optimal results, then yes.
'Enclothed Cognition'
Over the last few years, there have been numerous published studies in the unknown and intriguing area of 'Enclothed Cognition'
Enclothed cognition is an extension of the embodied cognition school of psychology which says that your body influences your brain as much as your brain influences your body. The study concludes that individuals wearing the right type of clothing for the right environment, reported a positive change in their mental behaviour and higher confidence levels.
Confidence = Increased Performance = Awesome results !
Scientifically proven to increase performance:
Most mainstream clothing tend to be made from non-breathable fabrics. These types of fabrics prevent the release of heat from your body. Cotton based clothing will also absorb sweat and hold it against your body creating discomfort and unease.
During exercise, your body temperature is regulated through a series of biological processes called thermoregulation. Thermoregulation keep's the body's temperature within an optimum range called the thermoneutral zone. During intense activity, your body's core temperature will rise and produce sweat. This process uses additional energy to try and keep the body cool and you will operate with less efficiency therefore not allowing you to perform at your maximum potential.
Performance sportswear or compression wear are primarily made from quick drying UV protected antibacterial fabrics that are designed to pull moisture/sweat away from your body which wicks away through the material keeping you very cool and regulating your body's temperature better than any cotton based clothing.
For athletes to perform at their peak they need to be comfortable in their gear. Compression clothing provides the right amount of pressure and the precision fit they provide maximises movement and mobility in all direction.
A 2013 study conducted in Germany also found that compression clothing facilitated faster recovery. It found that compression clothing gave graduated compression to stimulate circulation. The result is a massaging effect which stimulated blood flow through the muscles helping to remove the lactic acid which is produced during intense training. This can help reduce fatigue, minimise muscle vibration and soft tissue damage and prevent muscle injury.
Research also shows that compression gear increases blood flow back to the heart during high intensity exercise. It increases force production giving you the maximum explosive power and strength you need as and when required.
